The formation, resorption and remodeling of bone is an important physiological process. Enzyme alkaline phosphatase is a key marker of bone growth, with higher levels in childhood as the bones grow decreasing and leveling off in adulthood. Calcium, magnesium and phosphorus are the major mineral constituents of bone, with Parathyroid hormone (PTH) regulating blood calcium by mobilizing skeletal calcium stores, decreasing renal calcium clearance and increasing calcium absorption from the intestine through Vitamin D activation.
